McNair Free from Grand Theft Charges for AP in Manatee County FL.

Joel McNair reports that Manatee County Florida dropped the Grand Theft charges for which their sheriff arrested him.  Actually, the sheriff had arrested Joel for Adverse Possession, except no criminal penalty lies for AP, so the sheriff had to "invent" a charge, as have sheriffs in Hillsborough and Sarasota counties.

Getting arrested under a bogus grand theft charge for taking adverse possession operates similarly to getting arrested for "driving while black."  Sheriffs trump a bogus but remotely plausible charge.  In cases like this, deputies probably feel annoyed, envious, and jealous that anybody would take AP of a house better than the one the deputy lives in, and pay only $500 a month to live in it, in contrast to the deputy's $1500.

Grand Theft makes no sense in connection for AP.  Sheriffs claim the APer deprives the owner of use of the property.  In the case of property abandoned (such as due to foreclosure), that allegation doesn't ring true because the owner "done up and R-U-N-N-O-F-T."  Thus, nobody deprived the owner of use of the property but the owner.  Or as Pogo would say, "We has found the enemy and he is us."

Don't feel surprised that the prejudiced, biased, slanted area media reporters ignore this wonderful news.  They seem to hate Adverse Possession and won't run any story that makes APers look good.
