Procreation of the Stupid - finally some legal action against it

Jury Awards Parents of Down’s Daughter $3 Million for “Wrongful Birth”
The Oregon parents of a daughter with Down syndrome is the latest couple to win a lawsuit against a hospital for "wrongful birth."

This case makes an excellent point:  it ought to be a crime to bring a stupid child into this world.  Why?  Because the stupid remain children mentally even as they enter adulthood.   The stupid will cause endless problems throughout its life as children and as adults.  They require incessant care to shield them from abuse by smarter people, and to shield others from abuse by them.

Down’s children have mild to moderately lower than average IQ, but other problems yield the net effect of an unintelligent child that can never grow into a fully competent adult.  Typically anybody with an IQ below 85 cannot graduate from high school, and gravitates toward crime and welfare abuse in order to survive.  Jails and prisons have a high percentage of unintelligent inmates.

Only the criminal or criminally negligent would inject innocent children with a serum that makes them stupid for life.  In effect that generally happens when stupid parents procreate at all.  Most of their children will have low intelligence.  Stupidity generally has a genetic cause (though I’ll admit from experience that a sufficient ingestion of “adult beverages” can have a stultifying effect.)

The sensible should conclude from this that it makes no sense for the stupid to procreate, particularly in a high-tech civilization like that of the USA.  In spite of this, the USA contains between 75 million and 85 million people with IQ below 85 – too stupid to graduate from any high school that doesn’t have a dumbed-down curriculum.

Unfortunately, the well-nigh universal suffrage in the USA allows the stupid to vote, as though the stupid could possibly have a clue about the ideals of good government or suddenly make wise choices in elections when by definition they cannot make wise choices in their daily lives.

With a Constitution like ours and the prevailing climate of political correctness, Americans cannot even engage in intelligent dialogue on the subject of removing voting rights from the stupid, much less making illegal the procreation of the stupid.

I’d say our civilization has a way to go before it becomes really civilized.  Only the uncivilized would fail to enact laws that prevent the condemnation of innocent children to a life of stupidity.

Maybe more people need to file lawsuits like Ariel and Deborah Levy did because the doctor did not abort the child when the opportunity existed.

I think that’s the wrong approach.  This problem needs the attention of Congress and a Constituional amendment to outlaw procreation of the stupid.
